13 Household Uses for Coffee Grounds & Coffee Filters

1. Cover dishes


A great way to use coffee filters is to cover dishes when cooking in the microwave. Sometimes when you cook food in the microwave the juices or food particles may burst out of the container making a mess for you to clean-up. Once you cover your bowls or other containers that the filters can fit on you won’t have to worry about spills.

2. Filter wine


Most people enjoy a glass of wine and If you break the cork when opening a bottle of wine, filter the wine through a coffee filter to get rid of the particles from the cork.  You won’t have to worry about those little particles being in your wine or have to go out and buy a new bottle saving you money.

3. Protect dishes


Protect dishes by separating them with coffee filters between each dish. My mom always get upset if her fine china is in disarray. Once she started adding the coffee filters to place under and between, she wish she thought of it sooner.

4. Strain oil


You have to cook and oil is becoming very expensive. A way to save money is to recycle your cooking oil. After frying your meals, just strain oil through a sieve lined with a coffee filter. And count how much money you will begin to save.

5. Get rid of shoe odor


You have to wear shoes and sometimes odor comes from them when you wear them on a hot sunny day and you’re sweating. The moisture can bring bacteria that causes odor. Use a little baking soda in a coffee filter as a way of deodorizing smelly sneakers.

6. Weigh foods


You want to cook your favorite meal and the recipe calls for a certain amount. Weigh chopped foods like carrots, celery, rice or any food you have to use. Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter then place them on your kitchen scale. This will make cleaning up much easier for you.

7. Use on plants



You love your plants, but with plants comes a mess with dirt. Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Just line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes.

8. Use to hold foods


Use filters to hold foods that can easily spill like tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods. You can even use for a pizza. Just use the coffee filter to pick up a pizza slice and not get your hands full of grease.

9. Prevent popsicle drips


Prevent a popsicle from dripping everywhere. Poke one or two holes as needed in a coffee filter and slide the popsicle through the hole. Your kids will have less of a mess for you to clean-up.

10. Get rid of closet odors


Use coffee filters for all kinds of odors. Place some baking soda in a filter and place in your closet, refrigerator or where ever the odor exists. You can also spray your favorite fragrance on one and place in any room.

11. Soak up grease


You love your fried foods and with that comes grease. Use coffee filters. Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, french fries, chicken fingers, etc on them. It will soak the grease up and save your paper towels.

12. Use on razor nicks


Men and some women have to shave daily with razors. Use coffee filters. Keep in the bathroom and when you shave a get a nick, you can use to fix it. Just cut the size you need with scissors and place on the nick. Save toilet tissue and time with this easy fix.  Another way is to use the coffee grounds to exfoliate your skin on your face before shaving.

13. Use as a dryer sheet


If you run out of dryer sheets or just want to save money use coffee filters. Just add a few drops of fabric softener on a coffee filter, rub sides together, and toss in the dryer to help prevent static cling. You will save money and get soft and fresh clothes.
