1. Plain Cake Donuts

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 dash ground nutmeg

  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 quart oil for frying


  • Heat oil in deep fryer to 375 degrees
  • In a large bowl sift together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg
  • Mix butter until crumbly
  • Stir in milk and egg until smooth
  • Then knead dough lightly and turn out onto a lightly floured surface
  • Roll to ¼ inch thickness, cut with a donut cutter
  • Carefully drop donuts into hot oil, a few at a time do not overcrowd pan. Fry turning once until golden. Drain on paper towel.

  • 2 quarts oil for deep frying
  • 1-2 refrigerated butter milk biscuits dough
  • 1/2 cup confectioner’s sugar

4. Yeast Donuts


  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 quart oil for deep frying
  • 1 cup confectioner’s sugar for dusting
  • In a large mixing bowl combine 1¾ cups flour with yeast. In a sauce pan heat milk, sugar, butter and salt until butter melts
  • Stir milk mixture into flour along with eggs, beating with a heavy duty electric mixture on low for 30 seconds just to combine
  • Add the remaining flour and stir to make a firm but pliable dough
  • Knead dough on lightly floured work surface until smooth
  • Transfer to an oiled bowl, cover and let the dough rise until it doubles in size for about 1 hour
  • Turn dough out onto floured surface punch out and roll out to ½ inch thickness

  • 3 cups all purpose oil

  • 1 pkg Pillsbury Grand biscuits
  • Canola oil
  • Vanilla pudding (generally made with 2 cups milk, 1 cup heavy cream, ½ cup powdered sugar)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • 1 oz dark chocolate
  • 2 oz milk chocolate
  • 2 ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • Prepare filling by whisking together the pudding mix with milk
  • In a separate bowl mix beat on high with an electric mixer the heavy cream with powdered sugar, refrigerate until ready to use
  • Heat oil until hot
  • Separate the donuts and fry until golden brown
  • Add cream, milk, butter, vanilla and corn syrup to a medium sauce pan, heat on medium until butter is melted
  • To assemble, spoon filling into a pastry bag with tip
  • Press tip into side of donut and squeeze until donut appears full
  • Repeat for remaining donuts
